From these heights, the walls of the Mehrangarh Fort overlook a city of blue painted houses. This is how the city of Jodhpur gets its nickname. The fort’s museum has royal palanquins, weapons, and paintings too. Jaswant Thada, a marble memorial close to the fort, was built for a former Maharaja, and the Sardar Market with its clock tower is the kind of place you don’t want to skip. Jaisalmer — The Golden City
Jaisalmer Fort is built entirely from golden sandstone, and it’s one of those rare “living forts” in the world, where families still stay inside and run shops within the walls. That’s different from most other Rajasthan forts, which often end up standing empty. After the fort, you’ve got Patwon Ki Haveli with its carved havelis, camel safaris that head into the Thar Desert, and then a night under the stars at Sam sand dunes.
Chittorgarh
Chittorgarh Fort is the largest fort in India. This place comprises of Rajput history and legends. You’ll hear about valour and sacrifice, and local guides still recount it near Vijay Stambh, the Tower of Victory. There’s also Rani Padmini’s Palace, and honestly, her story is one of the most retold in Rajasthani folklore, like it never really fades.
